Careers & Employability

Next Phase Open Evening

Bringing together local employers, training providers, colleges and education partners to showcase the apprenticeship, employment, education and training opportunities available to young people in Newark & Sherwood.

Wednesday 14th October 2026
6pm – 9pm
Newark Rugby Club, Drove Lane, Newark, NG24 4FH

About the evening

We're seeing a real shift in our members' interest in apprenticeships and alternative routes into employment. This open evening uses the club's reach within the local community to help young people and their parents better understand the opportunities available to them — and to help local employers connect with motivated young talent.

Our focus is on getting a good mix of employers and education and training organisations together and making the evening as useful as possible for our young people. This is part of a wider post-16 approach we're developing at the club, bringing together education, rugby, coaching, volunteering, apprenticeships and employment opportunities.

What to expect

  • Stands from local employers, training providers and colleges
  • Information on apprenticeships, T Levels, traineeships and employment routes
  • Conversations with people already working in local businesses and organisations
  • Guidance on how to apply and what employers are looking for
  • A relaxed, informal setting at Newark Rugby Club

Who is it for?

Young people

Aged 16+ exploring what comes next — whether that's an apprenticeship, college, training programme or employment.

Parents & carers

Find out what opportunities exist locally and how to support your young person in making the right choice for them.

Employers

Showcase your apprenticeship and employment opportunities to motivated young people from the Newark community.

Training providers & colleges

Connect with young people and their families, and build relationships with local employers and the Foundation.

Interested in exhibiting?

If you're a local employer, training provider or college and would like to take a stand at the evening, we'd love to hear from you. There's no charge to exhibit — we simply ask that you bring information about your opportunities and someone who can speak to young people and parents directly.

Part of something bigger

This open evening is part of the Foundation's wider post-16 strategy — connecting education, rugby, coaching, volunteering, apprenticeships and employment into a coherent pathway for young people in Newark & Sherwood. Longer term, we want to build lasting relationships between local young people and the employers and organisations that can offer them a future.
