Bridging the gap between school and club.
Funded through the NLD (Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire & Derbyshire) Rugby partnership, our Player Pathways programme is one of our most strategically important areas of work. The Foundation generates significant participation through schools — Player Pathways exists to convert that participation into sustained club membership at Newark Rugby Club. We identify players, support their transition, and work closely with the Club to ensure a warm welcome and a clear pathway into age-grade rugby.
Player Pathways is delivered through our schools network. If you are a young player, parent or school interested in the transition programme, contact us to find out more.

Healthier, more active, more resilient children.
TREDS Active is a school-based sport and physical activity programme that supports primary schools to improve physical literacy, wellbeing, attendance, behaviour, leadership and personal development. Inspired by the values of rugby, the programme embeds a dedicated TREDS Coach in each participating school for one day per week across the full academic year. Rugby remains an important part of delivery and identity, but becomes one component within a broader physical activity, personal development and community engagement framework. This positions the Foundation to contribute not only to sport participation, but also to attendance, behaviour, wellbeing, leadership development and community cohesion.
TREDS Active is built around five core values drawn from the ethos of rugby. These values provide a consistent behavioural framework across all delivery and are transferable across every sport and physical activity.
Teamwork
Working together, supporting others and contributing positively.
Respect
Respecting self, others, school and community.
Enjoyment
Developing confidence, belonging and positive experiences.
Discipline
Taking responsibility, making positive choices and developing self-regulation.
Sportsmanship
Demonstrating fairness, resilience and integrity.
The programme is organised around five pillars that together create a whole-school approach to physical activity, personal development and community engagement.
Developing agility, balance, coordination, confidence and motivation through curriculum PE support, fundamental movement skills and a wide range of sports including rugby, football, cricket, basketball and more.
Targeted support for pupils experiencing low confidence, behaviour or attendance concerns, SEMH challenges or social isolation — using trusted adult relationships and structured activity to build resilience and positive behaviours.
Creating opportunities for Year 5 and Year 6 pupils to develop leadership skills through Playground Leaders, Sports Leaders, Peer Mentors, Wellbeing Champions and more.
Supporting a whole-school approach to physical activity with particular priority given to girls, SEND pupils, Pupil Premium pupils and the least-active children.
Extending the benefits of physical activity beyond the school day through family challenges, community festivals, volunteering opportunities and pathways into local sport and activity.
TREDS Active is available to primary schools across Newark & Sherwood. To find out more about partnering with us, contact us at info@newarkrugbyfoundation.org or use the enquiry form below.

Rugby for confidence, teamwork and belonging — KS2.
TRY Again uses the values and culture of rugby union to help KS2 children build confidence, resilience, emotional awareness and positive relationships. Beginning with Years 5 and 6, the programme creates a progression pathway where pupils who demonstrate positive growth become TRY Again Young Leaders — supporting sessions with younger children, acting as role models and reinforcing their own learning through responsibility.
TRY Again Primary is available to KS2 schools across Newark & Sherwood. The programme is designed for cohorts of 6–12 pupils in Years 3–6 who would benefit from additional support with confidence, emotional regulation, behaviour or social skills. TRY Again empowers young people to rebuild confidence, identity and purpose by fostering a sense of belonging and inspiring positive contribution within their school community. Through the culture and values of rugby, the programme combines high-energy rugby sessions with structured mentoring to develop self-regulation skills — helping students manage emotions, make positive choices and improve behaviour. By reconnecting students with learning and encouraging active participation, TRY Again supports them to re-engage with school life and future pathways, creating an environment where they feel valued and motivated to succeed.
